Certificate of Alteration
Project Process
If your property is a designated landmark or on any property within a city designated historic district and you would like to alter and/or repair the exterior you will need to apply for a certificate of alteration with the Historic Preservation Office.
The Historic Landmark Commission will review and approve the certificate of alteration application within 30 days of your application. If the HLC does not approve the certificate of alteration a property owner has 30 days to appeal the case to City Council. The certificate for alteration is in addition to and not in lieu of any building permit required by any other ordinance of the city.
