Planning and Community Development

The Planning and Community Development Department helps to guide growth and development within the City and its Extraterritorial Jurisdiction.

Divisions
The Department is divided into three divisions:

Building
The Building Division reviews permits and plans and conducts inspections throughout the construction process to ensure that all of the existing and new construction within the City limits meets or exceeds the standards of the adopted code.

Planning and Zoning
Through the implementation of the Subdivision Ordinance, Zoning Ordinance, and other ordinances including the Landscaping and Sign Ordinances, Staff is committed to creating and maintaining the quality of life. New developments are reviewed by the Division for conformance to the adopted Comprehensive Plan which includes the Future Land Use Plan and the Thoroughfare Plan.

Environmental Health, Code Enforcement, and Animal Control
The Health Division completes regular inspections of all food establishments and day care centers as well as conducts monthly food handler classes for all persons who will work in food services. Code Enforcement receives and responds to all concerns about possible code violations, especially issues such as tall grass and junk vehicles. Animal Control works closely with the New Braunfels Humane Society to ensure that all animals are treated properly and that problem animals are handled as needed.
